The company plans to use the funding to expand its research work on vaginal microbiome data while continuing to develop its consumer testing business. For patients and clinics, the important distinction is that a larger dataset may support future research, but it does not automatically turn every microbiome finding into a proven treatment or diagnostic decision.

From at-home testing to a research platform

Evvy is known for at-home vaginal microbiome testing. Users collect a sample with one swab and send it to the company’s laboratory for analysis using metagenomic next-generation sequencing, or mNGS. Results are presented through a health portal alongside a diagnosis, clinical interpretation and possible next steps, including prescription care when considered relevant.

TechCrunch reports that Evvy serves more than 100,000 patients in the United States and works with 3,000 practitioners. The company says it has produced 15 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts, identified previously unrecognized bacterial vaginosis subtypes and found hundreds of previously uncatalogued vaginal microbiome genomes.

That creates a different kind of business from a standard consumer test. Each result can potentially add information about symptoms, microbiome patterns, interventions and outcomes. In practical terms, the company is trying to build a feedback system: testing generates data, clinical care adds context, and future research looks for patterns that may improve care.

I often explain this kind of dataset as a map rather than a diagnosis. A map can reveal routes and relationships, but it still needs to be tested against real-world outcomes before it can guide every journey.

Fertility is the first major research focus

Evvy is now moving into fertility research, its first major expansion beyond vaginal health. One project uses samples from patients in IVF clinics to examine whether markers of infection and inflammation are associated with implantation success or failure.

TechCrunch also reports that the company is compiling data related to infertility, gynecological cancer, preterm birth, IVF success rates and recurrent pregnancy loss. A prospective study using Evvy’s vaginal microbiome tests in IVF clinics began last year.

The wording matters. The company is collecting data and developing science around these questions; the available reporting does not establish that the test can predict an individual patient’s IVF outcome, prevent pregnancy loss or determine a treatment plan. For anyone considering testing through a clinic, the useful questions are therefore straightforward:

  • Is the test being used as part of a research study or routine clinical care?
  • Which findings have been validated for the specific decision being discussed?
  • Who reviews the result, and how is it connected to symptoms, examination and other clinical information?
  • What treatment would actually change because of the result?
  • How are the sample, health information and research data handled?

These questions are not a rejection of microbiome science. They are the foundation for using it responsibly. A test is most useful when its result has a clear clinical pathway rather than simply adding another layer of information.

What the funding changes—and what it does not

The Series B funding is intended to validate studies already in progress, support additional research and scale Evvy’s consumer brand, including in doctors’ offices. The company is also developing EvvyAI, an assistant that translates collected microbiome data into guidance and directs users to clinicians when expert input is needed.

For patients, AI guidance should remain an educational layer, not a substitute for clinical review. Vaginal symptoms can overlap, and a microbiome result may be only one part of the picture. The practical next step is to ask whether a clinician is available to interpret the result and whether the recommended action is supported for the particular symptom or condition.

The broader signal is that women’s health companies are increasingly trying to connect biological data with outcomes across fertility and the wider female lifespan. Evvy’s progress will depend on whether its growing dataset produces findings that are reproducible, clinically useful and representative enough to support decisions beyond the platform itself.
